Seek Ye First
Matt 6.24-34

Mt 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto
you.

My son went sky-diving a few years ago.  As he jumped out of that airplane many things were on his mind –
-        “What classes should I take in school this year?”
-        “What should I buy my wife for her birthday?”
-        “I sure would like to have that new computer game.”
-        “I need a haircut.”
But, the most important thing on his mind at that moment was this – I NEED To PULL THIS RIP CORD SO The
PARACHUTE WILL OPEN AND I WON’T HIT The GROUND GOING 500KM PER HOUR.

Everything else at that moment was unimportant.

I want you to notice three words in our passage:

1.  Seek - until find – to crave –
Jer 29:13  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. (AV)
2.  First – at the beginning, first in time and importance – seek Him first every day.  You don’t stop seeking him
when you get saved.
3.  Things – You should never seek things, because things disappoint and leave you empty.

Life is not about you.  It’s about God.
We must come out of the self-serving, self-gratifying mentality.  We must center on God.  It is all about Him.  We
were created for His pleasure – not out own.

All of the things that we seek in this world are distractions to keep us from God.  If we would seek first and
foremost His kingdom – if we would make finding Him the priority of our lives – all else we desire and need
would be provided.

Moses stated that he would not go where God did not go before him.
Ex 33:14  And he said, My presence shall go [with thee], and I will give thee rest.
Ex 33:15  And he said unto him, If thy presence go not [with me], carry us not up hence. (AV)
The Promised Land did not matter if God was not there.

What is the kingdom of God?
Rom 14:17  For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy
Ghost. (AV)
The kingdom of God is when we live in a relationship with God in which He is our king – our ruler – our leader.
We become subservient to Him.

What does it mean to seek the K of G?
·        It means to put God’s will above our own.
·        It means to put our allegiances and interests in His Kingdom and not the kingdom of this world.
·        It means we give him our best.
·        It means we find out what is important to him and do it.
